The figures are illustrated to show contrasting appearance giving the appearance of an illuminated surface. The white areas represent areas emitting or illuminated by light, and the contrasting gradient-shading represents the effect of emitted light on areas not emitting light (e.g., light from light-emitting areas illuminating portions of non-light emitting areas). The contrasting darker gray-shaded areas represent areas not emitting light.
