The present invention is directed to a new and distinct variety of Chrysanthemum botanically classified as Dendranthema grandiflora. The varietal denomination of the new Chrysanthemum is `Lucky Time`.
The female and male parents of the new variety are undistributed, unpatented seedlings identified as 'P22-13 and 'P45-19, respectively. The new variety has been asexually reproduced by vegetative cuttings in Ventura County, Calif. and the distinguishing characteristics are retained through successive generations of asexual reproduction.
`Lucky Time` is a spray type pot forcing chrysanthemum plant variety producing flowers with light pink ray florets and purple centers on a plant capable of being grown commercially in a greenhouse. Ray floret color fades to white with increasing age of the bloom.
The accompanying photographs show typical specimens of the new variety with colors being as nearly true as possible with illustrations of this type. One illustration shows `Lucky Time` grown as a pinched spray pot mum and the other illustration is a close-up of the flowers.
The following description of the new variety is of specimens grown in a greenhouse in Oxnard, Ventura County, Calif. in the month of October. `Lucky Time` has not been observed under all possible environmental conditions. The phenotype may vary significantly with variations in the environment such as temperature, light intensity, day length and cultural conditions. Color values are taken from The Royal Horticultural Society Colour Chart.
Plants of the new variety have been grown successfully under temperature conditions averaging about 65° F. at night and about 75-85° F. during the day under light conditions of about 5,000-6,000 Foot candles. The plants respond well to use of growth retardant, such as a treatment with growth regulator B9 at about 2000 ppm. To produce a commercial product the plants may be pinched once. It has been observed that the shelf life of `Lucky Time` is about 24 days with the response time of about 8.5 weeks.
Habit: Upright and branching.
Height: About 26 cm after one application of growth regulator B9 as described.
Branching characteristics: Very good brancher both in quality and quantity.
